Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will

A. Know and understand

1. Demonstrate Functional knowledge and understanding of the contents, themes and character of the book of Daniel in the Hebrew text

B. Be able to

1. Critically Analyse the ‘introductory’ issues in understanding the book of Daniel

2. Discuss various perspectives regarding the themes and theological teachings of the book of Daniel

3. Translate and Exegete selected chapters of the Hebrew text of the book of Daniel

C. Be in a position to

1. Applying the teaching of Daniel to contemporary Christian living and ministry practice

Content

  1. Old Testament apocalyptic (its origin, development and theology) with special reference to the theology of the book of Daniel.
  2. Translation and exegesis of the Hebrew text of Daniel 1:1–2:4, 8–10, 12 (or comparable passages).
