Provision of academic and study skills support services, including English language support
Students are encouraged to view ACT’s Student Support Services page for information about academic and study skills support services available. In addition the Malyon College designated Student Tutor is responsible for assisting students, those attending campus and those studying online, with developing a range of academic skills, including:
- helping students to overcome difficulties with understanding course content and requirements;
- improving their skills for studying, reading, assignment writing, and maximising exam performance
- giving feedback on assignment drafts; helping students with time management in relation to assessment deadlines,
- identifying learning difficulties and where appropriate connecting a student in need of additional support to an appropriate resource or service, including the College Chaplain or to a counseling service,
- developing students’ self-sufficiency for managing their progress and performance regarding studying and learning.
Provision of counselling services
ACT and its colleges have a strong commitment to student wellbeing. Students are encouraged to view ACT’s Student Support Services page for information about personal and counselling support services available, as well as links to relevant ACT policies and processes in place to provide support to students. In addition, the following services are available to students studying at Malyon College:
- A combination of college & external provision.
- The Student Tutor assists in identifying learning difficulties and where appropriate connecting a student in need of additional support to an appropriate resource or service, including the College Chaplain or to a counseling service
- Referrals can be provided for more complex support matters. Malyon College primarily refers students to independent local services:
- Foundations Counselling
- Ashgrove Community Care Centre
- Gateway Counselling and Wholeness Centre
Library
The library provides a wide range of digital resources, as well as a physical collection of over 33,000 monographs. Information about the library and services are available here.
